SENIOR BIOLOGY MAJORS:

A RECOGNITION CEREMONY WILL BE HELD THIS YEAR
FOR ALL 2008-2009 GRADUATES IN BIOLOGY.

 TIME: 1:00PM (PLEASE BE SEATED IN YOUR CAP AND GOWN BY 12:45PM)

We will recognize each of you individually and present you with a certificate.
A professional photographer will record the event with you in your cap
and gown on stage with the Biology Department faculty.

2008 Commencement Photo Gallery


 

Here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • Wear your Cap and Gown
  • Find your seat on the floor of Smith Center by 12.45pm. Each seat will be marked with a graduate’s name and seating will be alphabetical. YOU MUST SIT IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT!
  • On your seat you will find an adhesive nametag.  Please place this on the right side of your gown in plain view as it will be used to match you with your personalized certificate of recognition during the ceremony.
  • Awards and Honors will be announced first.  Please rise if your name is called.
  • Each graduate’s name will be called as they receive their certificate.  An usher will direct your aisle to rise and approach the stage.  We will do single-line filing from the right of the stage (as you face it) to the left of the stage.
  • The photographers will take a photo of you as you receive your certificate and also immediately after you descend from the stage. After the second photo has been taken please return to your seat. Please remain seated until all graduates have received their certificates and the Ceremony has been concluded.
  • Another ceremony will occur immediately following ours so please exit the reception using the outside doors.
  • Parking: Public Parking - Smith Center is closest, Craige Deck, and the Kenan-Flagler business school deck are nearby. Ramshead Deck also available for $1.25 per hour per vehicle at the driver’s expense and is directly underneath the reception site.
    It is recommended that those needing Disability Parking park across from the main entrance of the Smith Center and enter through Entrance A. The UNC Office of Disability Services can be reached at 919-962-8300 regarding any questions related to accessibility. There will also be disability parking adjacent to the Smith Center. No special permit is required.

    Frequently Asked Questions
     
    Are tickets issued for the Ceremony & Reception?
    No. There is plenty of seating in Smith Center for everyone. RSVPs are requested for a catering head count.
     
    What if one of my guests is disabled?
    Wheel chair seating will be available on the main floor. Please enter at the A Entrance and proceed to the Basketball Entrance.
     
    Where do I park?
    Parking is available at the Smith Center, near by are Craige Deck and Kenan- Flagler Business School parking deck. Ramshead Deck also available for $1.25 per hour per vehicle at the driver’s expense and is directly beneath the reception site.
    How long will the Ceremony and Reception last?
    The ceremony will last approximately an hour. The Reception will follow immediately in the Ram’s Head Center/Chase Dining Hall. You may stay as short or as long as you wish.
     
    Will there be a photographer at the Ceremony?
    Yes. We have contracted with Photo Specialties. As each graduate is handed his/her diploma, a picture will be taken by a professional photographer. You will receive an email from the photographer with a link to their website, www.photospecialties.com, and a password that allows you to view and order your graduation photos online. A free color proof will also be mailed to your permanent address so that you will have the opportunity to purchase these prints. You are under no obligation to purchase prints. If you do not receive a proof within a week of the ceremony, please contact info@photospecialties.com or call 1-800-722-7033. Parents and guests are welcome to photograph as well.
     
    What if I am a double major?
    We have prepared certificates for all Biology Majors including joint majors and plan to read your name and present you with a certificate even if Biology was not your first major.
